Race Day!!

Yesterday I ran the Strider's Classic 10 mile race.

This was a great Tune-Up race for the Upcoming River Bank Run 25K (15 miles) that I am running on May 10th.

The 10 mile race was on an out and back course. The first 2.5 miles were flat, the next 5 miles had some rolling hills and two really challenging hills. The last 2.5 miles were flat again.
The race took us through some really dense and huge trees, apple orchards, and farm land. It was amazing scenery!! I wish I would have had my camera.

My goals for the 10 mile race was to get under 1 hour and 30 minutes and to not walk. My finishing time was 1 hour 24 minutes. An average of just over an 8 minute mile. I did not walk, I am very pleased that I made my goals:-)

STRIDERS SATURDAY CLASSIC RACE RESULTS

When I run races I will usually pick someone as I am running that has the same pace as me and I stick with them or try to keep up with them. This race I kept up with a skinny little black man. He had this on his shirt in big hand written letters, 'I Run With Jesus'. As I was listening to my ipod, I could hear him praying and praising the Lord throughout the race. It was so funny, it was just what I needed to keep me in good spirits throughout the race. There are so many interesting people who run races. I also met another Big black man that had lost 300 pounds. He still was wanting to lose 100 more. What a great accomplishment for him to finish a 10 mile race! He said just last year he had a really hard time just walking up the stairs. Running races are very inspiring and motivating to me.
When I finished the race Andy and the boys were at the finish line. That was so neat to have my boys cheering me on. Isaac was so cute, he said "Mom that is ok that you didn't win the race, you are the best mom anyways." After I had enjoyed the moment of finishing the race Andy tells me that Seth threw up all over his crib, and that I get to clean it up when we got home. Nothing brings you back into reality then that.

Jess, you are a cruiser! You rock! This sounds like a really fun and pretty race.

I loved the little sign Issac made! Way to go! I can't wait to hear how your 15 miler goes. I think you should start a column on your blog or somehing with training tips. I'd love to hear from an experience runner like you!

Way to go. That is awesome. I wish I had the stamina to run like that. The puke story is hilarious. Nothing like reality. Good luck getting ready for the next big race.

Good for you!! What an accomplishment and your boys will always remember what an athlete their mom is and how they can do things like that because you can. That is cool.

Way to go Jessica. Once my knee is fully rehabilitated (and providing I dig myself out of this wallowing depression) I hope to race again.
